You are invited to the greenhouse Saturday, April 19th from 1:00pm – 5:00pm. Come see what we’ve all been waiting for … lots of green! I realize it may still be too early to plant anything, but stop by anyway to get some ideas for later. This would also be a good time to bring in any planters that you may want me to fill. Bring a friend, gets some ideas, surround yourself with plants … what could be better!!! By the way, we will be opening for the season April 24th.
It’s that time of year when everyone asks me what I’m up to in the greenhouse. So I thought I’d give you a quick rundown. First of all, I have had seeds started for about four weeks now. Every week I plant a new batch. There are about 2,000 seedlings started. Nothing is in the greenhouse yet, they are all under grow lights in the shop. This week I will start getting in the baby plants that will need to be transplanted. That means the greenhouse will get fired up for the first time this year.
I’m VERY excited about this year! I took several trips last summer to check out new ideas and products. I went to Michigan, St. Paul, Chicago, and Rochester to meet new and current vendors. I have tons of new ideas to put into the greenhouse this year. I will have new varieties of flowers, veggies, trees and shrubs. Also, I’ll be opening up the a shed outside to have more room for yard/garden items.
I am also planning on having an “walk through” of the greenhouse for anyone interested in checking it out sometime in April. I’m not sure exactly when it will be, but keep an eye out for future posts. This will also be a good time to start thinking about spring planting and getting new ideas. If you are interested, feel free to dig out your planters and bring them in. You can leave them, tell me what you want in them, and I will get them started for you. It can be as easy as that! I won’t be doing any advertising for that day, so spread the word and bring friends!
Are you thinking about planting some trees or shrubs this fall? Now is the time to plan it out! I will be going to Bailey’s Nursery in Minneapolis this coming week and have the opportunity to purchase items for this fall at a discount. If you are interested, either give me a call (319-231-3443) or email me (email@example.com) for pricing. Keep in mind there may be minimum order requirements for each variety, depending on its size.
On another note — We will be in the Felix Grundy Days Parade this afternoon. If you see us, give us a shout out to receive some goodies! Hope to see you there!
I want to take a moment and thank everyone for your support this year. Thanks to all of you I had another great year — despite the weather! It sure has been a challenge, though. I will be closing down the greenhouse for the season after this week. If you have been meaning to come out, now is the time. For this final week, all annuals will be 60% off, all perennials 50% off, all trees/shrubs/planters 30% off.
As a reminder, my final hours will be:
Wed 26th 9-5
Thurs 27th 10-7
Fri 28th 9-5
Sat 29th 9-5
If you are interested in trees or shrubs after I close, please contact me at 319-231-3443 to take a look at them. I realize some people like to wait until the fall to plant, and I plan on keeping them around for possible fall sales.
I am already busy planning for next year and will be doing a lot of exciting things this summer related to that. I will be updating everything on Facebook and my website. If you have not “liked” me yet, please do so. I am planning on visiting some of my suppliers’ trial gardens in Minnesota and Michigan to get some ideas of unique plantings. We have also started creating some of our own “idea gardens” near the greenhouse for everyone to take a look at next spring.
Thanks again for your support!
It’s that time of year again – - SALE time!! With this crazy weather it’s hard to believe that I’m trying to start wrapping up the season, but it IS June! Starting Wednesday I will be offering all annuals, perennials, veggies and herbs at 40% off. On top of that, all trees and shrubs will now be 30% off. I still have a decent selection left so hurry in while you can. But once it’s gone, it’s gone!
Hope to see you soon!
We will be open tomorrow afternoon starting at 1pm for last minute Mother’s Day shoppers. We have planters, hanging baskets and decorations. A nice tree or shrub could also be a great idea!
Bring mom along for a fun afternoon outing!
The greenhouse is officially open for the season … well sort of. All I’m missing is customers! This definitely isn’t the weather we had last year. I sure am ready to see the sun again!
I am inviting everyone to come and hopefully get your spring fix for a while. Come visit me and DON’T buy anything. It’s just too cold for the plants yet. Although some things are growing very slowing in the greenhouse due to the weather, I still have plenty of blooms inside. Come out and I will help you plan what you’d like to do this year in your yard/garden. If you have time, dig out your old planters and bring them in. I can get them all planted for you and they will be beautiful by the time the weather warms up. Might as well get a head start on summer!
I have a ton of new things for you to check out this year! I have trees and shrubs for sale this year. I have also expanded the shop area to include vegetable seeds, onions, potatoes, garden supplies, and decor. Oh, and check out my new sign in Holland at the corner!
Here is my information for your reference:
Wed, Fri, Sat 9am – 5pm
Thur 10am – 7pm
or call 319-231-3443 any other time to make sure I’m here
Come on out and visit us — I’d love to see you!
What a beautiful spring day today! The geese have come back and the robins have arrived. Yes, it is definitely spring … at least until it snows again. I’ve been extremely busy in the greenhouse and the shop area. The plants are coming right along, and I’m excited to be offering quite a few new varieties. I have lots more perennials and shade plants. There will be quite a few vegetables to choose from when it’s warm enough to plant. I’ve been busy putting together more hanging baskets and planters. But the best part of all are the new things being added! I will have a selection of trees and shrubs this year. I will also be offering vegetable seeds along with onions and potatoes. On top of that the shop area is being expanded to include supplies such as potting soil, fertilizers, decorations, etc. It’s going to be a great year and I hope you can stop by to check it out!
By the way, due to the weather I will be pushing back my opening day to April 17th.
I have taken a VERY long break from the greenhouse. Now is that time of year where I start getting back into the swing of things. I wanted to give you an update of what is happening this time of year. I have ordered all my “babies” (seedlings) for arrival in early March. I am starting more plants from seed this year and they started arriving this past week. Some of those will be planted in the next few days! I have quite a few new types of plants this year. (I’m still trying to figure out where I’m going to put everything!!) There will be many more perennials and also more shade-loving plants.
The shop area is a disaster. I have accumulated some goodies to sell this spring but right now everything is piled on top of each other. I have also been working on staining cedar shingles to go outside on the front part of the shop. They are all done, just waiting for the hubbie to put them up. I’m hoping they will be up before I open!
On another note, I had two beautiful signs made. Last year I know a few people had some problems finding our place, but this year that shouldn’t be the case. These signs will be hard to miss! But again, another project for the hubbie.
It was a great season, but things are definately slowing down! I am no longer keeping regular business hours, but I am still selling plants. If you’re interested in stopping out, your best bet would be to call first to make sure I’m there. Or you can just try your luck — I might be around! Just in case, my cell # is 319-231-3443.
Almost forgot – everything is 50% off!
